The 2024 Paris Olympic Swimming Games marked a historic moment for the Chinese swimming team as they clinched the gold medal in the men's 4x100 meters medley relay. The team, consisting of Pan Zhanle, Qin Haiyang, Sun Jiajun, and Xu Jiayu, finished with a time of 3:27.30, outpacing the USA (3:28.01) and France (3:28:38), who took silver and bronze, respectively.
Significance of this Achievement
This achievement is particularly significant as it upended the US streak of winning gold in this event for 10 consecutive Olympics, a dominance that began at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. The Chinese team's victory not only ended a 40 year reign but also set a new standard in the sport.
In addition to their relay success, the Chinese swimming team had an exceptional overall performance at the Paris Olympics, securing a total of 12 medals (2 golds, 3 silvers, and 7 bronzes). This achievement surpasses their previous record of 10 medals at the 2012 London Olympics, making it one of the most successful outings in the team's history. Among the four world records set during the swimming events, 20-year-old Pan Zhanle shattered his own record in the men's 100 meters freestyle with a time of 46.40 seconds, and the team also set a new Asian record in the mixed 4x100 meters medley relay.
The Swim Corner extends our congratulations to the Chinese swimming team and all the teams that participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics for their remarkable achievements, creating a performance that will be remembered for decades to come!
