Following up on our previous article about the SwimSafer Program, let's dive into the advanced stages of this essential swimming education: Stages 4-6.
SWIMSAFER STAGE 4: Bronze
Personal Survival & Stroke Improvement Skills
In Stage 4, the focus shifts to refining stroke techniques and introducing coordinated breathing in deep water, with a goal of swimming 100 meters. This stage also covers watercraft safety principles, rescue skills, and personal survival techniques.
Perform a compact jump into the pool, swim through hoops at the bottom, and execute a feet-first surface dive to retrieve a flotation aid.
Demonstrate floating using the aid, then swim to the pool edge and exit without assistance.
Participants must swim without goggles, enhancing their proficiency and confidence in the water.
SWIMSAFER STAGE 5: Silver
Intermediate Personal Survival & Stroke Refinement Skills
Stage 5 builds on the foundation laid in earlier stages, introducing the fundamentals of diving and emphasizing advanced rescue skills and personal survival knowledge. Swimmers will need to demonstrate efficient stroke techniques and meet various test criteria, including:
Performing entries and exits, sculling and body orientation, and underwater skills.
Showcasing survival and rescue skills, along with comprehensive water safety knowledge.
SWIMSAFER STAGE 6: Gold
Advanced Personal Survival & Swimming Skill Proficiency
In the final stage, swimmers are required to perform strokes over a distance of 400 meters with greater ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness. The stage focuses heavily on lifesaving readiness, including standing dives and personal safety skills.
Test Criteria:
Swimming 400 meters using different strokes, along with demonstrating sculling, body orientation, and underwater skills.
Showcasing standing dives and comprehensive water safety knowledge.
Handling unexpected water problems, maintaining health while swimming, and caring for the environment around water bodies.
The SwimSafer Program equips participants with essential swimming and survival skills, promoting confidence and safety in the water. As swimmers progress through these stages, they become proficient in various techniques and gain invaluable knowledge for personal and public safety.
